The 1st Greece-Sweden Business Forum was an unprecedented success with over 200 senior professionals attending the event. Former Prime Minister of Sweden Mr. Göran Persson was the guest of honor and main speaker at the event, while key note speakers included Greek Minister of Tourism, Ms. Olga Kefalogiannis, and the Swedish Ambassador to Greece, Mrs. Charlotte Wrangberg. The discussions focused on strengthening tourism development between the two countries, developing stronger commercial relations in the export product industry of Greece and promoting green technologies for a cleaner environment. The Chairman of the Hellenic-Swedish Chamber of Commerce, Mr. John D. Saracakis, in his opening speech at the Forum discussed the relations between the two countries, stressing that:

Former Prime Minister of Sweden Mr. Göran Persson was the guest of honor and main speaker at the 1st Greece-Sweden Business Forum. Mr Göran Persson, who served as Prime Minister of Sweden for a decade, took over the helm of the Scandinavian country in 1996, with the economy "in a terrible situation". Before addressing an inspirational speech at the Forum, in an interview in Greece's leading newspaper Kathimerini, he explained the main steps that his government took to bring the deficit under 3 percent, halve the unemployment rate and bolster Sweden's productivity rate in Greece's leading daily newspaper Kathimerini.

When he was asked on the first steps he took towards changing the situation of the Swedish economy he replied:

On the 15th of October at the Hotel Grande Bretagne, Athens, the Chamber is organizing the Greece-Sweden Business forum.

The event will be honoured by the presence of the former Prime Minister of Sweden, Mr. Göran Persson, who will address a Keynote Speech. At the opening of the forum the Minister of Development and Competitiveness, Nikos Dendias, the Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni and the H.E. Ambassador of Sweden to Greece, Charlotte Wrangberg will also address.

Speaking during the 1st Greece-Sweden Business Forum, Mrs. Kefalogianni informed Swedish entrepreneurs that tourism in Greece has entered a growth trajectory due to major changes made over the past two years. "The reforms have radically changed the picture and created conditions for the development of entrepreneurship and investment," the Minister of Tourism said and informed that Greece has simplified licensing procedures for investments, modified the special zoning plan for tourism and created new products." 

The Hellenic Swedish Chamber of Commerce was among the 7 Bilateral Chambers of Greece that participated to the Press Conference organized to present a study conducted by the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE) and The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), entitled “The Role of Structural Reforms and the Prospects of the Greek Economy”.
