In recognition of the Swedish Parliament’s ongoing 100-year jubilee of the democratic process,  we have joined forces with the Stockholm Philanthropy Symposium, International IDEA and the International Youth Think Tank to organize the Almedalen Democracy Summit.

Taking place from 15.30-17.00 (GMT+2) on July 7, this free, online event focuses on the theme of  'Bridging the Chasm – the Role of Information, Inclusion, and Integrity in Revitalizing Democracy.'  The Summit will explore the challenges and opportunities that modern democracies face, seeking solutions for a more sustainable and inclusive future for our societies. Register now.

The event will convene prominent experts,  youth fellows, policymakers, practitioners and academics from around the world.  Speakers include Madeleine Albright (Former U.S. Secretary of State), Ann Linde (Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs) and Dr. Kevin Casas-Zamora (Secretary-General, International IDEA), and a panel moderated by Liz Alderman (Chief European business correspondent, The New York Times).

Take a look at the full speaker line-up, which includes:

The program covers topics including:

  • The Global State of Democracy – Challenges and Opportunities: Given the challenges both before and during the Covid-19 pandemic, how is democracy is faring around the world? And what are the opportunities for democracy going forward?
  • Philanthropy: In Service of Democracy?: Philanthropy can have a real impact on democracy, but there is a lack of debate about its potential and limitations. If the sector is to survive and thrive, it needs clear guiding principles and better governance.
  • Restarting Democracy – New Ideas for Participation and Information Integrity: Many Europeans perceive democracy as a monolith far removed from their daily lives, which is a breeding ground for the kind of authoritarianism and mob-rule politics that have ravaged the world.

Register now to attend this free, online event on July 7. We look forward to you joining us and our partners for what is set to be a fascinating event.
