The Embassy of Sweden in Athens and the Hellenic-Swedish Chamber of Commerce, organized the 2nd Waste Management Forum entitled:Sustainable Solid Waste Management Systems . The event took place at Radisson Blu Park Hotel in Athens, on Wednesday May 18, 2016.
As circular economy is moving higher and higher up the agenda, the organic waste sector is orientated towards the management and recovery of resources. The European Commission adopted an ambitious Circular Economy Package, which includes revised legislative proposals on waste to stimulate Europe’s transition towards a circular economy which will boost global competitiveness, foster sustainable economic growth and generate new jobs.
Following the successful first Waste Management Forum, the 2nd Waste Management Forum was attended by more than 130 participants.
The Ambassador of Sweden to Greece Mrs. Charlotte Wrangberg and the Chairman of the Hellenic-Swedish Chamber of Commerce welcomed the participants.
Keynote Speakers of the Forum were, the Alternate Minister of Productive Reconstruction of the Ministry of Environment & Energy Mr. Yiannis Tsironis, the General Secretary of Waste Management Coordination of the Ministry of Interior & Administrative Reconstruction Mr. Evangelos Kapetanios and the fmr Senior Advisor of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions Mr. Gunnar Fredriksson.
The First Session of the Forum was about the New Trends Technologies and Processes in Waste Management.

The Third Session was about the Greek Waste Landscape Changing: Opportunities and Challenges

Mr. Antonis Mavropoulos, Chair, Scientific and Technical Committee of ISWA of the Institute of Local Government Greece addressed about Economic and Social Considerations in Waste Management in Greece,
Mr. Nikolaos Mamalougas, Head of Managing Authority, O.P. “Transportation Infrastructure, Environment and Sustainable Development” of the Ministry of Economy, Development & Tourism-Environmental Sector addressed about Financing the Investment Required for Waste Management in Greece.
