We need more people, stronger skills and more open doors.

The Ambassador of Sweden, H.E. Hakan Emsgard and the Chairman of the Hellenic-Swedish Chamber of Commerce, Mr. George Georgakopoulos opened the morning with welcoming remarks.

Among the many topics covered, a few stood out:
▪️ A labour market open to everyone: more people entering the workforce, and remote work connecting talent from every region with businesses.
▪️ Bringing Greek talent home: incentives and initiatives to give young professionals a reason to return.
▪️ The Digital Labour Card: its role in building a more transparent, better-organized market.
▪️ Staff shortages and wages: the biggest challenge for employers today, with a clear goal of raising average wages.
▪️ EU Pay Transparency Directive (2023/970): changes are coming on gender equality, salary clarity at the hiring stage and objective criteria for career progression.
▪️ Demographics: long-term planning and support measures for the workforce in the years ahead.

The message that stood out was about training, reskilling and upskilling. The Minister stressed that businesses must take the lead and invest in their own people. AI isn’t closing doors. It is reshaping the market and creating new roles, and those who train now will be ahead.

Με κεντρικό θέμα “Europe 2026: Resilience, Innovation & Competitiveness”, πραγματοποιήθηκε, την Παρασκευή 25 Σεπτεμβρίου, το 11ο Business Forum Greece – Swedenαπό το Ελληνοσουηδικό Επιμελητήριο σε συνεργασία με την Πρεσβεία της Σουηδίας.

Το forum αποτέλεσε σημείο συνάντησης υψηλού επιπέδου για ανώτερους αξιωματούχους, επιχειρηματικούς ηγέτες, υπεύθυνους χάραξης πολιτικής και ειδικούς σε θέματα τεχνολογίας και καινοτομίας από την Ελλάδα και τη Σουηδία.

Κατά την εναρκτήρια ομιλία του, ο Πρόεδρος του Ελληνοσουηδικού Επιμελητηρίου, κ. Γιώργος Γεωργακόπουλος, ανέφερε ότι ο ρόλος του Επιμελητηρίου είναι να παρέχει μια πλατφόρμα για ουσιαστικό διάλογο και να συμβάλλει στην ενίσχυση της σχέσης μεταξύ των δύο χωρών, με το συγκεκριμένο forum να αποτελεί το ετήσιο αποκορύφωμα των δραστηριοτήτων του.

Όπως ο ίδιος τόνισε: «Νομίζω ότι η χρονική στιγμή δεν θα μπορούσε να είναι πιο σχετική. Η Ευρώπη διέρχεται μια περίοδο σημαντικών αλλαγών. Η γεωπολιτική αβεβαιότητα αυξάνεται. Το παγκόσμιο εμπόριο αλλάζει. Η ενεργειακή ασφάλεια έχει γίνει στρατηγικό ζήτημα. Η άμυνα και η ασφάλεια βρίσκονται ξανά στο επίκεντρο της ευρωπαϊκής ατζέντας. Και, ταυτόχρονα, η τεχνητή νοημοσύνη και οι νέες τεχνολογίες αλλάζουν τον τρόπο λειτουργίας των οικονομιών και των επιχειρήσεών μας. Όλα αυτά απαιτούν επενδύσεις». Και συμπλήρωσε: «Είμαστε διαφορετικές χώρες, αλλά μοιραζόμαστε ολοένα και περισσότερο σημαντικά στρατηγικά συμφέροντα και αξίες. Η Σουηδία έχει πολλές σπουδαίες εταιρείες οι οποίες δραστηριοποιούνται στην Ελλάδα και πολλές άλλες που θέλουν να αναπτυχθούν εδώ. Πολλές από αυτές τις εταιρείες είναι διεθνώς επιτυχημένες και ηγέτιδες στους κλάδους τους. Και η ευκαιρία υπερβαίνει κατά πολύ την αύξηση του διμερούς εμπορίου. Πρόκειται για τη δημιουργία περισσότερων δυνατοτήτων, περισσότερων επενδύσεων, περισσότερης καινοτομίας – και περισσότερης αξίας μαζί».

Χαιρετισμό απηύθυνε η Α.Ε.,  κ. Håkan Emsgård, Πρέσβης της Σουηδίας στην Ελλάδα. Ο Σουηδός Πρέσβης ανέλυσε τους πυλώνες της σουηδικής επιχειρηματικής υπεροχής, εστιάζοντας στις υψηλές δαπάνες R&D, που αποτελούν άνω του 3,5% του ΑΕΠ, με το 75% αυτών να χρηματοδοτείται από τον ιδιωτικό τομέα. Αναφέρθηκε επίσης στο ισχυρό οικοσύστημα καινοτομίας της Σουηδίας, με 30 εκκολαπτήρια και 30 επιστημονικά πάρκα με 7.500 ενεργές επιχειρήσεις συνδεδεμένες με πανεπιστήμια. Επιπλέον, στάθηκε στην πρωτοκαθεδρία της χώρας στις δημόσιες προσφορές στο χρηματιστήριο (IPOs). Εξήρε δε τη δημοσιονομική σταθερότητα της Ελλάδας και πρότεινε ευρεία συνεργασία σε αμυντική βιομηχανία, υποθαλάσσιες υποδομές, πολιτική προστασία και φρεγάτες.

Ο Αντιπρόεδρος της Κυβέρνησης, κ. Κωστής Χατζηδάκης, ανέφερε στην ομιλία του, μεταξύ άλλων: «Η Ελλάδα και η Σουηδία μπορεί να βρίσκονται σε διαφορετικά άκρα της Ευρώπης, αλλά η σχέση μας είναι ισχυρή και ουσιαστική. Οι σουηδικές επιχειρήσεις έχουν μακρά παρουσία στην Ελλάδα, οι οικονομικοί μας δεσμοί διευρύνονται και η Σουηδία παραμένει σημαντική πηγή τουριστών. Η ευκαιρία μας δεν είναι απλώς να κάνουμε περισσότερο διμερές εμπόριο, αλλά να διερευνήσουμε πώς οι ελληνικές και οι σουηδικές δυνατότητες μπορούν να ενωθούν για τη δημιουργία μεγαλύτερης ευρωπαϊκής αξίας. Το σημερινό forum συνδέει τρεις έννοιες που για καιρό αντιμετωπίζονταν χωριστά: Ανθεκτικότητα, Καινοτομία και Ανταγωνιστικότητα. Το μήνυμά μου προς τις σουηδικές επιχειρήσεις είναι σαφές: Επεκτείνετε την παρουσία σας στην Ελλάδα. Και προς τις ελληνικές επιχειρήσεις: Δείτε τη Σουηδία ως εταίρο στην καινοτομία και την ανάπτυξη. Μαζί μπορούμε να μετατρέψουμε την ανθεκτικότητα σε επενδύσεις και την καινοτομία σε ανταγωνιστική ισχύ για όλη την Ευρώπη».

Στη στρατηγική εξωστρέφειας της Ελλάδας, αλλά και στις σχέσεις Ελλάδας – Σουηδίας, αναφέρθηκε ο Υφυπουργός Εξωτερικών, κ. Χάρης Θεοχάρης, κατά τη διάρκεια της ομιλίας του, με τίτλο “Turning Trust into Growth: Greece’s Extroversion Strategy and the Greece-Sweden Opportunity”. Αναφερόμενος στις διμερείς εμπορικές σχέσεις Ελλάδας και Σουηδίας, ο Υφυπουργός Εξωτερικών έδωσε έμφαση σε ένα σημαντικό ορόσημο: «Πέρυσι, το διμερές μας εμπόριο ξεπέρασε για πρώτη φορά το 1 δισεκατομμύριο ευρώ. Είναι ένα σημαντικό ορόσημο, αλλά παραμένει πολύ κάτω από τις πραγματικές δυνατότητες. Ο τομέας της άμυνας είναι ένας εξαιρετικά ενεργός τομέας, που μπορεί να λειτουργήσει αμοιβαία επωφελώς. Η Ελλάδα αποτελεί πλατφόρμα και γέφυρα μεταξύ Ευρώπης, Μέσης Ανατολής και Ασίας, ενώ η Σουηδία προσφέρει μια κουλτούρα καινοτομίας και τεχνογνωσίας. Το εμπορικό μας ισοζύγιο είναι ισορροπημένο, γεγονός που καθιστά τη συνεργασία μας μια καθαρή κατάσταση αμοιβαίου οφέλους (win-win)».

Στο Session 1, με θέμα “Capital Markets & Banking”, πραγματοποιήθηκε συζήτηση μεταξύ των κυρίων Γιάννη Στουρνάρα, Διοικητή της Τράπεζας της Ελλάδος, και Stefan Ingves, Former Swedish Central Bank Governor, Chairman Toronto Centre. Τη συζήτηση συντόνισε ο πρόεδρος του Ελληνοσουηδικού Επιμελητηρίου, κ. Γιώργος Γεωργακόπουλος. Ο κ. Στουρνάρας ανέφερε, μεταξύ άλλων: «Έχουμε βρεθεί αντιμέτωποι με μια σειρά από πολλαπλά “σοκ” μετά την πανδημία˙  η ρωσική εισβολή στην Ουκρανία, οι δασμοί και η κρίση στη Μέση Ανατολή δημιούργησαν στασιμοπληθωριστικές τάσεις. Οι τιμές είναι υψηλές, ωστόσο δεν παρατηρείται στασιμότητα – προβλέπεται παγκόσμια οικονομική ανάπτυξη γύρω στο 3% για το 2026». Και ενώ, στην παρούσα φάση, η ακρίβεια είναι αισθητή, μακροπρόθεσμα, κατά τον κ. Στουρνάρα, οι προσδοκίες πληθωρισμού παραμένουν σταθερές κοντά στο 2%. «Η απάντηση στο αν έχουμε δομικά υψηλότερο πληθωρισμό,  είναι όχι. Όλα εξαρτώνται από την αξιοπιστία της νομισματικής και δημοσιονομικής πολιτικής για την επαναφορά του πληθωρισμού στο 2%» τόνισε. Από την πλευρά του, ο κ. Ingves δήλωσε: «Δεν πρόκειται να επιστρέψουμε σε αρνητικά επιτόκια. Τα επίπεδα του δημόσιου χρέους παγκοσμίως είναι υψηλότερα από ποτέ, ασκώντας διαρκή πίεση στα επιτόκια. Όταν τρέχεις δημοσιονομικό έλλειμμα 6% του ΑΕΠ, όπως οι ΗΠΑ, αυτό έχει επιπτώσεις. Είναι εφικτό να πέσει ο πληθωρισμός στο 2%, αλλά το “κλειδί” είναι να διατηρήσουμε το “δικό μας σπίτι σε τάξη”, ανεξάρτητα από το τι κάνουν οι άλλοι».

Στην ομιλία του, ο καθηγητής Kjell Engelbrekt, Dean of the Swedish Defence University, ανέφερε, μεταξύ άλλων: «Το 1942, δίναμε πάνω από 12% του ΑΕΠ σε αμυντικές δαπάνες, ενώ στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 1980 πέσαμε κάτω από το 3%. Σήμερα, επιστρέφουμε στο 2,8% του ΑΕΠ, με στόχο το 3,5% έως το 2030. Το μεγαλύτερο περιουσιακό στοιχείο που φέρνει η Σουηδία στο ΝΑΤΟ –πέρα από τους αξιωματικούς του πανεπιστημίου μας– είναι η προηγμένη αμυντική βιομηχανία της (Gripen, υποβρύχια, τεθωρακισμένα CV90, πυροβολικό Archer). Πέντε από αυτά τα συστήματα μάχονται ήδη στην Ουκρανία. Η αεροπορία προσαρμόστηκε ταχύτατα στο Nordic Air Defence concept (κοινή χρήση βάσεων F-18, F-35, Gripen), το Ναυτικό αποκτά 4 φρεγάτες, ενώ στον Στρατό Ξηράς Σουηδοί αξιωματικοί διοικούν πλέον Φινλανδούς στρατιώτες στις μπροστινές δυνάμεις ξηράς. Τέλος, η Σουηδία διαθέτει ισχυρή Κυβερνοάμυνα, Ψυχολογική Άμυνα και το μοντέλο της Συνολικής Άμυνας (Total Defence)».

Ομιλία, με θέμα “National Security in an Era of Political and Technological Complexity”, παρέθεσε ο κ. Θάνος Ντόκος, Γενικός Γραμματέας Εθνικής Ασφάλειας και Σύμβουλος Εθνικής Ασφάλειας του Πρωθυπουργού, στο πλαίσιο της οποίας αναφέρθηκε σε πέντε σημαντικά σημεία, με αφορμή την τελευταία διεύρυνση του ΝΑΤΟ. Κατά τον Γενικό Γραμματέα Εθνικής Ασφάλειας, βρισκόμαστε αντιμέτωποι με ένα εξαιρετικά περίπλοκο διεθνές περιβάλλον ασφάλειας και, μέσα σε αυτό το πλαίσιο, η Ευρώπη πρέπει να ενισχύσει τη στρατηγική της αυτονομία με έναν ρεαλιστικό οδικό χάρτη. Ο κ. Ντόκος εκτίμησε ότι οι μελλοντικές συγκρούσεις θα είναι λιγότερο ανθρωποκεντρικές και περισσότερο επικεντρωμένες στην Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη (AI-centric). Αναφορικά με το θέμα των δαπανών και των προϊόντων Dual-Use, είπε ότι η μόνη βιώσιμη λύση είναι οι επενδύσεις σε τεχνολογίες διπλής χρήσης (civilian & military dual-use). Αναφέρθηκε επίσης στη συνεργασία Ελλάδας και Σουηδίας, διαβλέποντας τεράστιες ευκαιρίες στο μέλλον: «Οι δύο χώρες μοιράζονται παρόμοιες ανάγκες (μεγάλες ακτογραμμές, αμέτρητα νησιά). Η απόκτηση των 4 φρεγατών FDI προσφέρει ευκαιρίες στο Σουηδικό Ναυτικό να μάθει από την ελληνική εμπειρία, με κοινές ασκήσεις και συμμετοχή σε επιχειρήσεις, όπως η επιχείρηση “Ασπίδες” στην Ερυθρά Θάλασσα».

Ο κ. Μιχάλης Κατρίνης, Βουλευτής Ηλείας και Υπεύθυνος Τομέα Εθνικής Άμυνας του ΠΑΣΟΚ, μίλησε για το χρηματοδοτικό Ταμείο SAFE, αναφέροντας: «Στο πλαίσιο του Rearm Europe Readiness 2030, το ταμείο SAFE παρέχει έως 150 δισεκατομμύρια ευρώ σε δάνεια για κοινές προμήθειες. Η πολιτική πρόκληση είναι να διασφαλιστεί ότι αυτοί οι πόροι θα δημιουργήσουν παραγωγικές ευκαιρίες σε περισσότερες ευρωπαϊκές χώρες και δεν θα συγκεντρωθούν σε ένα κλειστό κλαμπ κρατών, αφήνοντας τους υπόλοιπους απλούς καταναλωτές. Για την Ελλάδα, το κεντρικό ερώτημα είναι αν η συμμετοχή θα αποφέρει εγχώρια βιομηχανική ανάπτυξη. Απαιτούμε τη θεσμοθέτηση υποχρεωτικής εγχώριας βιομηχανικής συμμετοχής (conditionality) πριν την οριστικοποίηση των συμφωνιών». Περαιτέρω ο κ. Κατρίνης τόνισε: «Απαιτείται σταθερό πλαίσιο που συνδέει δημόσιους φορείς, ερευνητικά κέντρα και επιχειρήσεις, αξιοποιώντας τεχνολογίες διπλής χρήσης. Η συνεργασία Ελλάδας-Σουηδίας στην άμυνα και τη ναυπηγική μπορεί να συνδέσει την ελληνική βιομηχανική ανάπτυξη με ισχυρότερες ευρωπαϊκές δυνατότητες».

Ομιλία, με τίτλο “Defence Innovation at the Speed of Relevance”, πραγματοποίησε ο κ. Fredrik Gustafson, Vice President & Head of Group Business Development, Saab AB, αναδεικνύοντας τη μεγαλύτερη πρόκληση που καλείται να αντιμετωπίσει η αμυντική βιομηχανία, η οποία συνοψίζεται στο ερώτημα «Πώς προετοιμαζόμαστε για ένα μέλλον που αλλάζει ταχύτερα από όσο αναμέναμε;».

Όπως είπε: «Το πλεονέκτημα δεν είναι απλά να έχεις προηγμένη τεχνολογία, αλλά να μπορείς να καινοτομείς συνεχώς. Τα διδάγματα από την Ουκρανία έδειξαν ότι ο ρυθμός καινοτομίας άλλαξε ριζικά. Τα παραδοσιακά μοντέλα είναι υπερβολικά αργά. Η καινοτομία δεν μετριέται σε χρόνια ή μήνες, αλλά σε ημέρες και ώρες. Τα κέντρα R&D μεταφέρθηκαν απευθείας στα τάγματα και τις ταξιαρχίες. Στη Σουηδία εφαρμόζουμε το μοντέλο “Triple Helix” (Τριπλή Έλικα), όπου κυβέρνηση, βιομηχανία και ακαδημαϊκή κοινότητα συνεργάζονται στενά στο πλαίσιο μιας σταθερής εθνικής στρατηγικής δεκαετιών (όπως συνέβη με τη Saab πριν από 90 χρόνια, την ABB και την Ericsson). Παρουσιάζουμε ήδη καινοτομίες, όπως το Erieye σε μη επανδρωμένο αεροσκάφος MQ-9, AI agents στο μαχητικό Gripen, που εκπαιδεύονται σε ώρες, κατανεμημένους αισθητήρες και anti-drone συστήματα (Loki)». Σημείωσε δε ακόμη: «Βλέπουμε τεράστιες ευκαιρίες συνεργασίας με το ελληνικό αμυντικό οικοσύστημα για την ενίσχυση της ευρωπαϊκής ανθεκτικότητας».

Στο πάνελ του Session 2 με θέμα “Defence, Security & Dual-Use Innovation”, το οποίο συντόνισε η κ. Μαρίνα Καπετανάκη, Senior Partner, KPMG Greece, συμμετείχαν οι κ.κ. Magnus Schöldtz, Director and Senior Advisor, Wallenberg Office, former Ambassador, Άννα Ψαρούλη, Head of the Executive Management Office, Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency, Σπυρίδων Παπαγεωργίου, General Secretary for the Protection of Critical Entities, Ministry of Citizen Protection, Johan Brisfors, Director and Head of Sales Submarines, Saab Naval, Allan Charles, Head of Defense EMEA, Ericsson, Δημήτρης Σκαλαίος, Executive Director & CRO, Hellenic Aerospace Industry S.A. / Chairman, Hellenic Aerospace, Security & Defense Industries Group (HASDIG). Το πάνελ επικεντρώθηκε στον ριζικό μετασχηματισμό του ευρωπαϊκού τοπίου ασφαλείας και την επιτακτική ανάγκη οικοδόμησης Ευρωπαϊκής Στρατηγικής Αυτονομίας, τεχνολογικής υπεροχής και συνολικής ανθεκτικότητας (Total Defense & Societal Resilience). Η σύγκλιση της Ελλάδας και της Σουηδίας—δύο κρατών-μελών που αποτελούν τα εξωτερικά σύνορα της ΕΕ και του ΝΑΤΟ στη Νότια και Βόρεια Ευρώπη—δημιουργεί ένα ισχυρό υπόβαθρο για διμερείς και ευρωπαϊκές συνέργειες στους τομείς της αμυντικής βιομηχανίας, των τεχνολογιών διπλής χρήσης (dual-use) και των ασφαλών επικοινωνιών.

Στο Session 3, με θέμα “Energy, Infrastructure & Industrial Transition”, o κ. Κυριάκος Ρωτίδης, Local Business Manager Motion, ΑΒΒ Greece, παρέθεσε ομιλία με τίτλο “Powering Competitiveness in the Age of Electricity: How Technology and Energy Productivity Drive Growth and Resilience”.  Στο πάνελ που ακολούθησε, με συντονιστή τον κ. Δημήτρη Πούλο, Managing Director, Alfa Laval Greece, συμμετείχαν οι κ.κ. Ιωάννης Καρύδας, Chief Executive Officer Renewables, Energy Storage & Interconnections, Copelouzos Group & Managing Director, ELICA INTERCONNECTOR SA, Κωνσταντίνος Χατζηφώτης, EU Affairs Manager, Motor Oil Group, Χρήστος Σκαρλατάκης, Commercial Leader Electrification, ABB Greece και Θεόδωρος Τζούρος, Executive General Manager, Chief Corporate & Investment Banking, Piraeus Bank Group. Το πάνελ ανέδειξε τη μετάβαση της Ευρώπης και της Ελλάδας στην «Εποχή του Ηλεκτρισμού» (Age of Electricity), όπου η παγκόσμια ζήτηση ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας αναμένεται να αυξηθεί κατά 19% έως το 2030. Η αύξηση αυτή τροφοδοτείται από την ηλεκτροδότηση της βιομηχανίας, την εξάπλωση της ηλεκτροκίνησης και τη ραγδαία ανάπτυξη των Data Centers και της Τεχνητής Νοημοσύνης (AI). Το κεντρικό συμπέρασμα του πάνελ είναι ότι η βιομηχανική ανταγωνιστικότητα δεν εξαρτάται πλέον μόνο από τον όγκο παραγωγής ενέργειας, αλλά από την παραγωγικότητα της ενέργειας —δηλαδή από τη δυνατότητα μετατροπής κάθε μεγαβάτ σε οικονομική αξία, ανθεκτικότητα και βιωσιμότητα.

Ομιλία, με τίτλο “Shaping the AI communication world”, παρέθεσε ο κ. Mikael Bäck, Vice President and Corporate Officer, Technology & Strategy Unit, Ericsson, με έμφαση στην πλήρη ενοποίηση ICT, data centers, τηλεπικοινωνιών και AI σε μία ενιαία βιομηχανική υποδομή. Επεσήμανε δε ότι η Ευρώπη ηγείται στις επικοινωνίες (τυποποίηση, 8 δισ. συσκευές) και πρέπει να αξιοποιήσει το κατανεμημένο AI (Distributed AI & Inference) μέσω τηλεπικοινωνιακών δικτύων αντί μόνο γιγαντιαίων data centers.

Στο πάνελ του Session 4, με θέμα “AI, Digitalisation & Productivity” και συντονιστή τον κ. Σπύρο Ξανθόπουλο, Partner, Consulting Services, EY, συμμετείχαν οι κ.κ. Αλέξανδρος Μάνος, Chief Commercial Officer, Netcompany, Αλεξάνδρα Φατσέα, Deputy Managing Director, Intrum Hellas / Managing Director, Intrum REO Solutions,  Ηλίας Βύζας, Partner, Head of Consulting, EY Greece – Data, Analytics & AI Center of Excellence Leader – AI & DATA Leader, Europe Central και Θοδωρής Γεωργακόπουλος, Columnist, Kathimerini Greek, Founder 1830 Lab. Το πάνελ ανέδειξε τη μετάβαση από την απλή τεχνολογική καινοτομία στη μετρήσιμη επιχειρησιακή παραγωγικότητα και την εθνική/ευρωπαϊκή ανταγωνιστικότητα. Κεντρικός άξονας της συζήτησης ήταν η ανάγκη αξιοποίησης της “αόρατης υποδομής” (invisible infrastructure) των επικοινωνιακών δικτύων της Ευρώπης για την εφαρμογή του AI (Applied AI) στη βιομηχανία, την άμυνα, την υγεία και τις χρηματοπιστωτικές υπηρεσίες. Παράλληλα, υπογραμμίστηκε η επιτακτική ανάγκη για διεθνή ρυθμιστική διακυβέρνηση (AI Governance), προστασία της ιδιωτικότητας, έλεγχο του λειτουργικού κόστους και διατήρηση της ανθρώπινης κρίσης σε κρίσιμες κοινωνικές αποφάσεις.

Στο Session 5, με θέμα “Swedish Design, Innovation & Sustainability” και συντονίστρια την κ. Ράνια Πατσιοπούλου, Managing Director SKF Hellas, συμμετείχαν η κ. Ewa Kumlin, Senior Project Manager, International Projects, Svensk Form, η κ. Ειρήνη Σδράλλη, Visual Merchandiser Executive, Housemarket-IKEA, ο κ. We were honored to welcome Thanasis Kontogeorgis as keynote speaker, who addressed the timely theme:
“Greece and Europe 2030: Paving the Way for the New European Budget for Resilient and Balanced Growth.”

The event opened with welcome remarks by the Chairman of the Chamber, George Georgakopoulos, and H.E. Hakan Emsgard who both emphasized the importance of strengthening Greek-Swedish cooperation at a defining moment for Europe.

In his keynote address, Mr. Thanasis Kontogeorgis highlighted Greece’s strong reform momentum, improving competitiveness, and the government’s commitment to ensuring that growth is both resilient and inclusive. He underscored that, as negotiations begin for the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework (2028–2034), Europe must strike the right balance between global competitiveness and territorial cohesion.

He also noted the deep and longstanding ties between Greece and Sweden, built on shared values of democracy, openness, innovation, and sustainability, and emphasized the important contribution of Swedish companies to investment, technological progress, and job creation in Greece.

The discussion offered valuable insights into Greece’s strategic priorities and the opportunities emerging across sectors such as energy, infrastructure, digital transformation, innovation, and regional development.

Today I had the pleasure of meeting with members of the Hellenic–Swedish Chamber of Commerce for a highly constructive discussion on the future of Greek–Swedish relations and the new opportunities emerging for our two economies.
I reaffirmed the Greek government’s unwavering commitment to fiscal stability and to a bold reform agenda focusing on further reducing taxation, strengthening the business environment, attracting high-quality investment and increasing exports.
Greece today stands out as a dynamic and reliable partner, offering significant opportunities for investment and strategic partnerships. By further strengthening our economic ties, we can unlock new prospects for businesses in both countries and contribute to Europe’s competitiveness, resilience and sustainable growth.

Mr. Vettas reflected on Greece’s economic journey since the early 2000s, highlighting both the resilience demonstrated over time and the challenges that continue to shape long-term growth prospects. Focusing on structural priorities and long-term choices and acknowledging the complexity of reform in a small open economy, he underlined the importance of productivity, investment and exports—emphasizing that sustainable growth depends not on scale alone, but on smart, targeted solutions where quality matters more than quantity.
Emphasis was placed on improving education and skills, early childhood development, fiscal and taxation priorities, public sector reform, strengthening innovation, and creating conditions that allow businesses to grow and compete internationally. Attention was also given to broadening labour-force participation, including greater inclusion of women, against the backdrop of an ageing population and adverse demographic trends. Supporting human capital and improving institutional effectiveness were highlighted as mutually reinforcing pillars of a resilient and outward-looking growth model.

The breakfast opened with welcome remarks by H.E. the Ambassador of Sweden and our Chairman, Mr. George Georgakopoulos, who noted:
“Sustainable progress is built through informed dialogue, realistic priorities and long-term vision. Today’s discussion is on the importance of focusing on reforms that enhance competitiveness, opportunity and resilience for the future”.
